The Story of Mírame
Mírame didn’t start with a business plan, it started with identity. Before it was Mírame, it was Descendencia Latina, a small shop rooted in Latin culture, created to celebrate where we come from. From the beginning, the mission was clear: everyone is welcome, and everyone deserves a space to express who they are loudly, proudly, and unapologetically.
The vision grew when I stepped into the picture.
My name is Elizabeth Sanchez. I was born in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico and raised in Colorado from the age of six. I grew up in a traditional Mexican household as the oldest of three sisters, low-income, high expectations, good grades, and parents who always made sure we had what we needed. Fashion wasn’t part of my world then. Honestly… please don’t go looking for old pictures. I wasn’t the fashion girl, and I definitely wasn’t dreaming of owning a clothing store. I’ve never even seen a full Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
But life has a funny way of revealing who you are when you’re ready.
The day I met Ariana, the original owner of Descendencia Latina, something clicked. As she talked about the shop, I didn’t just see clothes, I saw us. I saw our culture, our pride, our humor, our families, our roots. I saw a space where I belonged. The products spoke my language. They carried the identity I had been learning to embrace, and I felt called to continue the story she started.
I also thought about something bigger: how few businesses truly speak to Hispanics and Latines in Colorado. How often we’ve had to shrink ourselves, hide our accents, adjust our names, and blend in to survive. Many of us grew up between two worlds, I am sure you have heard it "from here and from there" and somewhere along the way, we were taught to mute parts of ourselves to belong.
But we’re in a new era now.
We are walking into workplaces where people who look like us were rarely seen. We’re standing in rooms where our culture once felt out of place. We’re showing up at tables we weren’t invited to before and we're pulling up the chair ourselves. We’re celebrating who we are, not hiding it.
That’s how the name Mírame came to life.
It means “Look at me.”
Not in a “notice me” way but in a see me as I am way.
See my culture.
See my roots.
See my identity.
See my pride.
Mírame is for anyone who has ever felt too different, too loud, too brown, too Latina, too much or not enough. It’s for anyone reclaiming the parts of themselves they once tucked away.
This brand is my love letter to our community.
A reminder that we belong.
A place where culture meets fashion, where tradition meets modern identity, and where all of us can show up exactly how we want to be seen.
Mírame. This is who we are now.
